Pechanga Pow Wow: A Celebration of Culture
Every year, the first or second weekend of January, Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California, hosts its annual Pow Wow โ a vibrant celebration of Native American culture, music, and dance.
We attended for the first time this year, and after such an incredible experience, we can confidently say โ it wonโt be our last.

What Is a Pow Wow?
Youโve likely heard the term before, but do you know what a Pow Wow truly represents?

A Pow Wow is a Native American ceremony that includes feasting, singing, and dancing โ a joyful celebration of life and culture. These gatherings honor ancestors, bring together members of different tribes, and provide a space for cultural connection and community.
Pow Wows take place throughout North America all year long. To find one near you, visit powwows.com.
Grand Entry & Traditional Dances
We spent much of the day simply taking in the atmosphere and watching the dancers. The Grand Entry was especially powerful to witness in person, with dancers of all ages entering the arena in beautifully detailed regalia.
We also watched several dance categories throughout the afternoon, including the Teen Girls 17 and Under category and an Honor Dance led by Naliya Littlechild.

The colors, movement, and music create a mesmerizing experience โ a living expression of heritage and pride.
Food Break: Frybread Dreams
No event is complete without sampling the food! We made our way to the food vendor area determined to try as much as possible.

๐ Stuffed Frybread from Native Kiicha Frybread โ a traditional frybread filled with meat and cheese, served with salsa.

๐ฎ Frybread Taco โ topped with beans, ground beef, lettuce, cheese, salsa, and jalapeรฑos. It was everything we hoped for โ warm, savory, and perfectly fluffy.
Inside, a room full of Native artisans showcased handmade jewelry, blankets, art, and apparel. It was busy and buzzing with creativity โ a reminder of how alive and thriving these traditions remain.

Back to the Pow Wow
We returned to the main area to enjoy more dance categories โ from the Tiny Tots (possibly making their debut!) to the Women 70+ and Men 70+ divisions. Each performance radiated pride, joy, and cultural strength.

The One and Only Original Texas Twister
Before heading out, we couldnโt resist trying a colorful Texas Twister drink, a fruity blend of orange, lemon, lime, and cherry (with pieces of real fruit!). It was refreshing, sweet, and the perfect way to wrap up the day.
