LA28 FAQ REgistration & Eligibility

Section 1: Registration & eligibility

Do I Need to Register Again for Drop 2?

No. If you registered for Drop 1 and haven’t reached your ticket maximum, you’re automatically included in future ticket draws. If you registered for the first ticket draw, you generally don’t need to sign up again. LA28 says eligible fans who remain under the ticket purchase limits will automatically be considered for future ticket drops, including Drop 2.

Am I Automatically Entered Into the Second LA28 Ticket Drop?

Fans who registered for Drop 1 and either weren’t selected or haven’t reached their ticket limits are automatically entered into Drop 2. Many people have been asking whether they need to do anything before the second drop. According to LA28, most fans who registered previously and remain eligible will automatically stay in the ticket draw process.

What’s the Deadline to Register for LA28 Drop 2?

July 22, 2026. New registrations must be complete by July 22 to be eligible for an August purchase time slot. If you missed the first registration period, don’t wait too long. LA28 has announced that new fans must register by July 22nd to be eligible for an August purchase time slot.

Can I Still Get Tickets if I Missed Drop 1?

Yes. Drop 2 is specifically giving another opportunity to fans who missed registration, weren’t selected, or didn’t buy their full allotment during Drop 1. Missing the first drop doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance at the Olympics. LA28 created additional ticket drops specifically to give more fans an opportunity to purchase tickets before the Games.

Who Qualifies for the Second Olympic Ticket Draw?

Anyone who registers by July 22, 2026 and meets LA28 eligibility requirements.  New registrants can still participate as long as they sign up before the deadline. Existing registrants who haven’t reached their ticket limits remain eligible, and purchasers must be at least 18 years old.”

Can I Create Multiple Accounts for Better Odds?

No. LA28 specifically prohibits registering or purchasing through multiple accounts. Doing so may result in disqualification from future ticket draws or purchases. Trying to increase your chances with multiple accounts is against LA28’s ticketing rules. The organization warns that duplicate registrations or accounts could lead to disqualification from the ticket draw process.”

What Happens if I Already Bought Some Tickets?

You can still be entered into future draws if you haven’t reached your ticket maximum. LA28 automatically enters eligible buyers into subsequent draws until they hit their purchase limits. Buying tickets in the first drop doesn’t necessarily remove you from future draws. If you haven’t reached the maximum number of tickets allowed, LA28 says you may continue to be considered for additional purchase opportunities.”

Can I Still Participate if I Wasn’t Selected the First Time?

Yes. If you weren’t selected for a previous ticket drop, LA28 automatically keeps you in future draws without requiring another registration. If you didn’t get a purchase time slot during the first draw, you don’t need to start over. LA28 automatically keeps eligible fans in the pool for future ticket drops, including the upcoming August opportunity.

Now that we’ve covered who can participate in Drop 2, let’s talk about the questions everyone really wants answered: What tickets might be available, and how much are they likely to cost?

LA28 FAQ Time Slots & lottery

section 2: Time Slots & Lottery

How Are LA28 Time Slots Assigned?

Time slots are assigned randomly through the LA28 Ticket Draw. According to LA28, registering for the Ticket Draw enters you into a random selection process. If you’re selected, you’ll receive a time slot that allows you to purchase tickets during the ticket drop. Registration gives you a chance to be selected, but it does not guarantee you’ll receive a time slot.

When Will I Know If I Got a Ticket Time Slot?

LA28 will notify selected fans by email. For Drop 1, fans were notified by email after registration closed. For Drop 2, expect a similar process. Keep an eye on the email account you used to register, and don’t forget to check your spam folder as we get closer to August.

Do Earlier Time Slots Get Better Ticket Availability?

Generally, yes. LA28 hasn’t officially stated that earlier time slots are better, but tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis during each drop. That means inventory naturally decreases as more people purchase tickets, so earlier access usually provides more options.

If you watched my first ticket video, you know that having a time slot doesn’t necessarily mean your dream event will still be available. You can view that view here:

Are Tickets Released Gradually or All at Once?

We don’t know exactly how Drop 2 inventory will be released. This is one of the biggest questions from Drop 1. LA28 has confirmed that future drops will include refreshed inventory across all Olympic sports, but they haven’t explained exactly how tickets will be allocated during individual purchase windows. So far, we simply don’t have enough official information to know precisely how Drop 2 inventory will be distributed.

Can I Improve My Chances of Getting a Better Time Slot?

No. The draw is random. LA28 says time slots are assigned randomly, and there is no official way to improve your chances. In fact, creating multiple accounts or registering multiple times violates the rules and could result in disqualification.

Will There Be Another Locals-Only Presale Before Drop 2?

Nothing has been announced. LA28 offered a Southern California and Oklahoma City presale before Drop 1, but as of now there has been no announcement of another locals-only presale before the August ticket drop. If that changes, LA28 will likely communicate it directly through their ticketing website and email updates.

The Real Question…

Of course, the biggest thing everyone wants to know isn’t how the draw works—it’s whether the tickets they actually want will be available. So let’s talk about gymnastics, basketball, swimming, Opening Ceremony tickets, and whether affordable seats are likely to return in Drop 2.

LA28 FAQ Ticket Availability

Section 3: Ticket availabIlity

Will Sold Out Sports Be Available in Drop 2?

Possibly. LA28 says inventory will be refreshed across all Olympic sports. Gymnastics, swimming, and basketball were among the most sought-after events during the first ticket drop. LA28 has announced that Drop 2 will include refreshed inventory across all Olympic sports, which means additional tickets could become available. However, organizers have not confirmed which sessions will be released or how many tickets will be available. If these are your must-have events, I’d be ready the moment your purchase window opens because they’re likely to be some of the most competitive tickets once again.

Will There Be More Opening Ceremony Tickets?

Possibly, but LA28 hasn’t confirmed additional inventory. The Opening Ceremony is one of the most sought-after events of every Olympics. While LA28 has said future drops will include inventory across all sports, they have not specifically confirmed whether additional Opening Ceremony tickets will be available. If they do release more, expect competition to be intense.

What Sports Still Have Affordable Tickets?

Typically, preliminary rounds and less in-demand events. Historically, some of the best Olympic values come from preliminary competitions and sports that don’t receive as much media attention. These events can still offer an incredible Olympic experience without the premium price tag of a medal final or ceremony.

Will There Be More $28 Tickets?

Yes, additional $28 tickets are expected. LA28 previously announced that more than one million tickets priced at $28 would be available across the overall ticketing program. Those tickets were not intended to be limited to just the first drop, so fans should still expect some $28 inventory moving forward. The challenge won’t be whether they exist. The challenge will be actually getting them.

What Events Sold Out Fastest?

Gymnastics, swimming, athletics, basketball, and the Opening Ceremony were among the hottest tickets. Based on media reports and fan experiences from Drop 1, high-profile events like gymnastics, swimming finals, track and field finals, basketball, and the Opening Ceremony generated some of the strongest demand. No huge surprises there. Those are typically some of the toughest Olympic tickets to get.

Should I Have Backup Events Ready?

Absolutely. If there’s one lesson many fans learned from Drop 1, it’s that flexibility helps. Have a list of must-have events, but also keep several backup options in mind. The more flexible you are, the better your chances of leaving your purchase window with tickets.  We bought handball tickets, and we aren’t even entirely sure what that sport is.  But we will know by LA28!

LA28 FAQ Pricing

Section 4: pricing

Will LA28 ticket prices go up in Drop 2?

LA28 has not announced pricing for Drop 2. At the time I’m recording this, LA28 has not released pricing details for the August ticket drop. That means we don’t know whether prices will stay the same, increase, or vary by event. Anyone telling you they know exactly what prices will be is speculating. My advice would be to budget for higher prices than you’re hoping for and be pleasantly surprised if they’re lower.

Is Dynamic Pricing Coming to the Olympics?

Not for Drop 1—but the future remains unclear. LA28 confirmed that dynamic pricing was not used during the initial ticket drop. However, organizers have not ruled out changes to pricing strategies in future sales phases, so it’s something fans should continue watching. This is one of the biggest concerns I see online because nobody wants to see airline-style pricing hit Olympic tickets.

What Are the Cheapest Olympic Events to Attend?

Preliminary rounds and less in-demand sports are usually the most affordable. While prices vary by session, some of the lowest-cost tickets in the first LA28 ticket drop were generally found in preliminary rounds rather than medal events. Sports that don’t attract the same level of demand as gymnastics, swimming, basketball, or the Opening Ceremony also tended to offer more affordable options. If your goal is simply to be part of the Olympic atmosphere, don’t overlook sports you may not normally watch. Some of the best value can come from events that aren’t receiving all the media attention.

Will There Be Tickets Under $100?

Likely yes, but availability will depend on Drop 2 inventory. During the first ticket drop, many sessions were available for under $100, and LA28 has continued to emphasize affordability as part of its ticketing strategy. While we don’t yet know what inventory will be available in August, lower-priced tickets are expected to remain part of the overall ticket program. Just remember that the most affordable tickets are often the most competitive because so many people are looking for them.

What Fees Are Added to LA28 Tickets?

Expect service and processing fees. One surprise for many buyers during the first ticket drop was the additional fees added at checkout. While the exact amount varied by order, the final price was often noticeably higher than the advertised ticket price.

For buyers here in places like California and several other U.S. states with newer ‘all-in pricing’ or fee transparency laws, the ticket fees were broken out pretty clearly during checkout. But because ticketing laws can vary depending on where you live, I’m not sure yet whether buyers in every state or country will see the exact same experience.

How Much Are Opening Ceremony Tickets?

Prices varied from hundreds to thousands of dollars. The Opening Ceremony was one of the most expensive events offered during the first ticket drop. Depending on seating location and ticket category, prices ranged from relatively accessible seats to premium options costing several thousand dollars. If attending the Opening Ceremony is your dream, it’s worth knowing upfront that this is likely to remain one of the most expensive tickets of the entire Games.

LA28 FAQ Seating & Purchase Process

Section 5: Seating & Purchase Process

Can You Choose Your Seats for LA28?

No. You choose a ticket category, not an exact seat. When purchasing tickets, you’ll select a ticket category, which is essentially a price level within the venue. Your exact seat won’t be assigned until closer to the Games.

This was one of the biggest surprises for a lot of buyers during Drop 1. You’re choosing a section and price range, not a specific row and seat.

Will My Group Sit Together?

LA28 will try, but it is not guaranteed. If you purchase multiple tickets in the same transaction and category, LA28 says they will do their best to seat your group together. However, consecutive seating is not guaranteed. If you’re buying for family or friends, it’s worth knowing that ‘best effort’ is not the same thing as a guarantee.

Can I Buy Additional Tickets Later and Still Sit Together?

Probably not. Because seats aren’t assigned until much closer to the Games, there’s currently no process that allows separately purchased tickets to be combined into one seating assignment. If you buy more tickets later, you should assume they may not be located with your original tickets.

If you’re trying to attend with a larger group, it’s usually best to buy everyone’s tickets in the same transaction whenever possible.

How Many Tickets Can One Account Buy?

Up to 12 tickets, with some exceptions. LA28 currently allows each registered account to purchase up to 12 tickets across Olympic events. Some sports and events have additional restrictions, and the limits may change over time.

This is a total limit across ticket drops, not 12 tickets per drop.

Do Football/Soccer Tickets Count Toward the 12-Ticket Limit?

No. Football/Soccer has its own separate allowance. LA28 allows fans to purchase up to 12 football/soccer tickets in addition to their regular 12-ticket Olympic limit. Those soccer tickets do not count against your general ticket allocation.

Your Perspective

“This exception probably exists because soccer is being played in multiple venues around the country and has significantly more inventory available.”

Can I Transfer LA28 Tickets to Family?

Yes. Eligible tickets can be transferred. LA28 says tickets may be transferred to other named ticket holders through the official ticketing platform. The person attending the event will need to have the ticket assigned to their name.

This is great news if you’re buying tickets for family members or if plans change between now and 2028.

LA28 FAQ Resale & Scams

section 6: RESALE & SCAM QUESTIONS

When Will LA28 Resale Tickets Start?

The official resale program begins in 2027. LA28 has announced that its verified ticket resale program will launch in 2027. Until then, there is no official LA28 resale marketplace for Olympic tickets. If you’re hoping resale prices will save the day this year, unfortunately, we’re not there yet.

LA28 Ticket Resale Reminder

Can I Resell My Tickets If I Can’t Attend?

Yes—but the official resale program doesn’t open until 2027. LA28 has confirmed that ticket holders will be able to resell eligible tickets through its verified resale network once the program launches in 2027. Details about pricing and resale rules have not yet been fully released.

Should I Buy LA28 Tickets From StubHub or Other Resale Sites Right Now?

Use extreme caution. LA28 says no resale tickets are verified until 2027. LA28 has specifically warned fans that its verified resale program will not launch until 2027. If you see Olympic tickets listed on StubHub or other resale sites before then, those tickets have not been verified by LA28. California officials have also warned consumers about Olympic ticket scams and fake resale websites. Personally, I wouldn’t risk thousands of dollars on a ticket that LA28 itself says it can’t verify.

Will Ticketmaster Handle Olympic Resale?

Yes, starting in 2027. LA28 has announced that Ticketmaster will be one of its verified resale partners when the official resale program launches in 2027. Ticketmaster will join AXS, Eventim, and Sports Illustrated Tickets as part of the verified resale network. This is probably the answer many fans were hoping for because Ticketmaster is already familiar to so many ticket buyers.

LA28 FAQ Miscellaneous

Section 7: Miscellaneous

I Got a Time Slot but Everything Was Sold Out

You weren’t the only one. One of the biggest complaints from Drop 1 came from fans who received a purchase window but discovered that many of their preferred events were already unavailable. Having a time slot gives you access to buy tickets, but it doesn’t guarantee that specific events or price levels will still be available when your turn arrives.

This was honestly one of the most frustrating parts of the process. A lot of people assumed getting a time slot meant they’d have access to the tickets they wanted, and for many fans that simply wasn’t the case.

Why Were There No Affordable Tickets Left?

Affordable tickets had the highest demand. Lower-priced tickets naturally attract the largest number of buyers. While LA28 made a significant number of affordable tickets available, demand for those tickets was enormous. In many cases, they were claimed long before later purchase windows opened.

If you’re targeting the lowest price points, it’s worth having backup events and backup price ranges in mind before your purchase window starts.

Did Anyone Actually Get $28 Tickets?

Yes. Despite skepticism online, many fans successfully purchased $28 tickets during the first ticket drop. LA28 has stated that more than one million $28 tickets will be available throughout the overall ticketing program, not just during a single sales phase.

The challenge wasn’t whether the tickets existed. The challenge was finding them before other buyers did. We actually got a few $28 tickets and some $38 tickets.

Was LA28 Ticketing a Disaster?

That depends on who you ask. Some fans were thrilled with the tickets they secured, while others walked away disappointed by pricing, availability, or their assigned purchase window. The reality is that both experiences can be true at the same time.

I wouldn’t call it a disaster, but I do think there were expectations that didn’t always match reality. A lot of frustration came from people assuming a time slot guaranteed access to specific events.

Why Did Locals Get Priority?

LA28 offered a limited local presale before general sales began. Before the broader ticket draw opened, LA28 provided a presale opportunity for residents of Southern California and Oklahoma City. Organizers said the goal was to give local communities hosting Olympic events a chance to participate early.

Whether you agree with that decision or not, the local presale represented only a portion of the overall ticket inventory.

Are the Olympics Only for Rich People Now?

No—but premium events can be expensive. High-demand events like the Opening Ceremony, gymnastics finals, and marquee competitions often come with premium pricing. At the same time, LA28 has emphasized affordability through lower-cost ticket options, including its $28 ticket program.

I think the real answer depends on expectations. If your dream is courtside basketball or the Opening Ceremony, it can get expensive quickly. But if your goal is simply to experience the Olympics in person, there are still affordable ways to be part of it.

Is Drop 2 Worth Trying For?

Absolutely. Drop 2 represents another opportunity to purchase tickets, including refreshed inventory across Olympic sports. Even if you missed out during the first drop—or didn’t get the events you wanted—August gives fans another chance.

If you’re interested in attending the Olympics, I think it’s absolutely worth trying. Just go into the process with realistic expectations, a list of backup events, and a budget you’re comfortable with.
