Bottle Logic Brewing: Anaheim, California

One of our favorite breweries in Southern California is located in Anaheim, Bottle Logic Brewing. Located at 1072 North Armando Street, Bottle Logic is a science themed brewery, which obviously appealed to our nerdy sides. With a portrait of Nikolas Tesla in the main tasting room and a wall full of math, science, and computer books, it is Heaven.

Did I mention they allow dogs?

Founded by Wes Parker in 2013 and officially opened in 2014, the brewery offers a wide selection of beverages for just about every palate. On weekends you’ll find a variety of local food trucks parked outside serving hungry beer (and seltzer) lovers.

We first came across the brewery in late 2015 and have made multiple trips per year to try on site and to take home. Some of their beers have become quite famous in beer trading communities and are highly sought after.

Last mentioned Bottle Logic last year with their Baklava inspired beer. That’s what we love about this brewery, the variety tops just about everywhere else we’ve been.

Our favorite bottle logic brewing beers:

I’m just going to list my and Matt’s top beers from Bottle Logic Brewing. We’ve rated so many of their beers so highly, that I’m only going to include the top of the top for each of us, those I’ve rated 4.75/5 and 5/5 and those Matt has rated 5/5, of which there are many. My number is much lower, not because I think less of their beers, but because most times I’m more into people watching than logging in my beers. This also explains how Matt has logged 2,000 more beers than I have total over the years, because sometimes, I just forget.

Also to note, besides our own home, Bottle Logic is our top checked in location on Untappd. Follow us on Untappd to see all of the beers we’ve had from there (the count is almost 200) over the last 6 or so years. Information on Untappd below.

5/5: Basic Math (2021), 10/29/2021

Basic Math is a Barleywine Style ale, a style I’ve recently come to love. It has a 10% ABV and 35 IBU. It is described as “Pumpkin Spice Latte-Inspired Barleywine • 10% ABV • Fresh barleywine brewed with pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and ginger, then conditioned on Onyx Coffee’s “Geometry Blend” of coffee beans and a final treatment of Vietnamese cinnamon.” So calling all Basic B*tches, this is your new go to Fall Brew, as one myself, I hope they continue this one.

The average global rating that Basic Math received is 4/5. On draft, Matt rated this beer a 4.25/5 but dropped that to 3.75/5 when drinking it from a can. Something to consider.

5/5: Intrepid Orchid (2022), 2/4/2022

This is another Barleywine style, with 11.25% ABV and 30 IBU. Told you I like Barleywine beers. It is described as “Bourbon Barrel-Aged English Style Vanilla Barleywine • 11.2% ABV • Decadent caramel hue with a glittering, ruby-colored rim. Brown sugar cookie and toffee-toned aromas melt into layers of caramel cream and nougat on the palate. Brûléed sugar bitterness and undertones of leather, oak, and autumn leaves balance the rich layers of Madagascar vanilla with a soft breath of impeccably integrated bourbon on the exhale.”

The average global rating that Intrepid Orchid received is 4.39/5 and Matt also gave it a 5/5, so this will of course be on his list as well.

Paisley Cave Complex (2018), 10/19/2018

This is an Imperial/Double Pastry Stout, with 13% ABV and 40 IBU. It is described as “

Dusk settles beyond the cave while sparks of first fire crackle into the breeze. Ah, the early North American man, with distant dreams of the day their kind would reach its zenith some 14,300 years later with a Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial S’Mores Stout. With blueberries. For science.

Unearth our latest collaboration with the axe-wielding archeologists from Portland’s Great Notion Brewing!

[This beer was brewed with Jet Puffed marshmallows.] ”

The average global rating that received is 4.56/5 and I gave it a rating of 2.25/5. Again, I went against the grain in terms of the apparent popularity and high rating of this particular brew.

It is described as “From beyond the dimensions of sound, sight, and mind comes Picture If You Will, the fifth bottled vintage of our tribute to the sweet, dark magic of bourbon barrels and the caramelly, burnt-sugar spell they’ve cast over our seasonal pumpkin-pie inspired ale. ⁣

This bewitching brew began with hundreds of pounds of fresh pumpkin and was finished with clove, allspice, nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon after spending twelve months in bourbon barrels.⁣

Poured from the bottle, the beer emulates a slice of pumpkin pie from the graham-cracker-crust malt backbone to the silky, whipped-cream mouthfeel. It drinks deceptively lighter than its 13.63% ABV — good for a fright now or after Time Enough at Last in a cellar.⁣⁣⁣”

The average global rating that received is 4.12/5. I did not rate this beer.

Scatter Signal (2021), 12/2/2021

This is an Imperial/Double Pastry Stout, with 14.14% ABV and 40 IBU. It is described as “

Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night…

Scatter Signal was forged from the liquid that made Bottle Logic what it is — our World Beer Cup-clad Darkstar November, here now built and brawned to withstand war. Coffee for vigor, chocolate to fortify, marshmallows for resilience.

This Imperial Mocha-Marshmallow Stout is a blend of liquid aged from 12 to 24 months in a medley of bourbon barrels. It was conditioned on an exclusive blend of coffee beans roasted by Onyx Coffee Lab for a complex foundation of chocolate brownie and burnt sugar undertones.

…and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

The average global rating that received is 4.37/5 and I gave it a rating of 4.5/5.

Intrepid Orchid (2022), 2/4/2022

You saw this one above in my favorites.

The Nine, 4/1/2022

This is an Imperial/Double Black IPA, with 11% ABV and 120 IBU. It is described as “Imperial Black IPA • 11% ABV • Succumb to the power of this 11% ABV Imperial IPA! Warrior, Chinook, Simcoe, and Galaxy hops ride onto the palate with an ancient and terrifying bitterness balanced by a rich, roasty malt character that shrouds the palate in a medium-bodied shadowy void.”

The average global rating that received is 3.79/5 and I gave it a rating of 2.5/5. Black IPAs are Matt’s new (as of 2022) favorite style, I like them, but this one was too bitter for me.

Banzai Break, 4/1/2022

This is a Smoothie/Pastry Sour, with 6% ABV and 10 IBU. It is described as “Açaí Bowl Smoothie-Style Berliner. We recirculated our tart Berliner through successive rounds of vanilla granola over four days for a sweet-nutty-oaty base flavor. ⁣

An early addition of 500 lbs of banana purée blends in a soft tropical note and amps the viscosity of this “smoothie-style” beer to literal smoothie texture. A combined 750lbs of strawberries, blueberries, açaí berries later, Banzai Break swells to life with a crest of coconut and a righteous 6% ABV.”

The average global rating that received is 4.38/5 and I gave it a rating of 4.5/5.

Bottle Logic brewing summary

As I said previously, this brewery has a wide variety for every taste. They even have a few seltzers available now. If you’re into beer and find yourself in Anaheim or happen to be able to get your hands on a bottle, try it. You may just find a new favorite.

I thought it was important to give both of our ratings on each other’s favorites, showing the variance in our tastes. You can see some of Matt’s favorites I only gave a 2/5. And my two Boysenberry beers didn’t make the cut for Matt’s 5/5 rating. But that’s the beauty of beer. There’s something for everyone.
